Daryl’s Degree of Success! 25th Sep 2014read more
Former BFE Learner Daryl Spark has successfully gained a place to study a degree in health and social care at Sunderland University. Having completed L2 and 3 preparing to work in adult social care, Daryl took her tutors advice to enrol on an HEFC course at Tynemet college. Having successfully completed her English, Science and Quantitive methods exams, Daryl was ready to pursue her goal of University. She also has taken up a role within the NHS, supporting people with complex behaviours, and on a psychiatry ward.
Daryl quotes “ Without coming to the course at BFE, and the help and support of my tutor Tracy , I would not have been able to go on to study at university. The teaching and advice after the course was fantastic, and I plan to come back to be a guest speaker in the other healthcare courses to share my experiences”.
BFE Garden & Grounds Maintenance staff volunteer at Riverside Housing’s Walkergate Action Day 24th Sep 2014read more
Today our team are out giving a helping hand to local Riverside Housing residents in Walker to clean up their estate and make their area a nicer and safer place to live.
The team at Riverside Housing contacted BFE to support this project on a volunteer basis to help tidy up the estate at Walker and show the local residents how to keep on top of their outdoor spaces. The staff from Riverside Housing helped our Gardening Team with the clearance of debris, litter and weeds from hard-standing areas such as paths, walkways, pavements and driveways to transform the estate into a tidier place to live.
The BFE team also provided a ‘Top Ten’ list of Hints & Tips for the Garden to help residents to make their green spaces neater, keep them free from weeds and to help hedges, shrubs, plants, bushes, trees and flowers grow better.
Work such as this helps residents to see how keeping on top of weeding and litter on a frequent basis can make their estate a much more pleasant place to live and we hope that today’s Action Day will be the start of something positive for the outdoor spaces of Walker.
Thanks to all the Gardening Team for their hard work today and to Riverside staff for giving us the opportunity to be a part of this project.
Here are some pictures from the day…
