The Cabinet Office - Office of the Third Sector has recently published (July 2009) the report of a Task Force led by Dame Julia Cleverdon (Vice President of Business in the Community) on Building Stronger Communities, Business and the Third Sector: Innovation in Tough Times.

The Task Force examined innovation involving businesses and the third sector in working together to help support communities in England at particular risk of fracture due to the downturn. The report calls for a much greater connection between business and the third sector at a local level, demanding greater investment in innovative partnerships.

A Walker based charity's environmental support service division have received assistance from Northgate PLC in the form of transport.

Building Futures East, based in Walker have for the last 3 years provided a comprehensive gardening and environmental service to many homes in the local area and have been thrown a lifeline by the leading van hire company.

Anthony shows his skills to local company

An outstanding student from Building Futures East has gained a placement with a local company, Brims Construction. Brims were looking for a keen trainee who had experience and training in general construction and they approached Building Futures East to help them recruit.

Little Rock visits the Tyne

A delegation from the City of Little Rock in Arkansas visited Building Futures East as part of their week long stay in Newcastle upon Tyne in May as part of the development of a 'Sister City' relationship.
